RHYTM OF THE CITIES is an Installation film composed by my perception of the rhythm of cities after travelling through them.

Since my first introduction to the audio-visual arts, I have been interested in time and the ability of cinema to fix it.

Cinema excels at being able to give time a visible and real form. Once recorded on tape, the phenomenon remains there: fixed.

As a theoretical starting point of this experimental procedure, my work is based on the analysis conducted by Andrei Tarkovsky in his book “Sculpting in Time”. The director suggests the idea of rhythm as a dominant and all-powerful factor in the cinematographic image, using this to express the flow of time within the shot, and referring to a rhythm inherent in the shot.

On research trips to different countries, I had the opportunity to appreciate the perception of the time of the cities through which I travelled: Buenos Aires (Argentina), Kahawa (Sri Lanka), Havana (Cuba), Kodaikanal (India), Fez (Morocco).

Each peace of the film, each city, works like a score in movement, and the soundtrack is performed live during the screening.

My goal is to create a "rhythm file" of different cities and make them interact in a different place.
